Each week I draw a medicine card to set the tone for the week ahead and practice leading with the intuitive side of my brain. It makes for a fantastic companion to the more left-brain planning I also do each week.
This is one of my favorite animal medicines. Mountain Lion shows up in the South position of my personal totem animals, and protects the child within.
Mountain Lion's domain is the arena of leadership, and its lessons are Responsibility and Balance of Power.
Mountain Lion's giant feline form is an example of power and grace. They never waste, killing only what they need for survival. By observing Mountain Lion's graceful pounce, you will learn how to balance power, intention, strength, and grace.
By drawing Mountain Lion, we are being asked to look deeply at our convictions, and to clarify where we can lead with our heart. As we become self-leaders and follow our own path, the lessons multiply, but the rewards are great.
This week I drew the Mountain Lion card contrary, or positioned upside down. This reminds us to look for imbalances in how this particular medicine is showing up in our life.
Are we a leader who has resorted to leading through tyranny or dictatorship? If so, remember the medicine of free will. When we honor the will of another we help restore choice to all.
Another way this medicine can go sideways is by avoiding taking out rightful place as a leader. When fear and doubt keep us from taking up the mantle that is ours, we must remember to call upon the courage of the Lion and summon our roar!
By refusing to hide in the cave of our own shyness or uncertainty, we send the message that we are all leaders-in-learning.
Roar with conviction! And remember to balance the roar of power with the roar of laughter.
